Proper photos of Norwegian Vikings. Well, modern Vikings I suppose. :)
And proper photos of proper Norwegian madams, too. ;)
As well as some proper art photos. Look at this gorgeous double exposure courtesy of lazy/forgetful winding up of film a la yours truly. I love happy photo accidents like this. :)
If you ever have a chance to visit Bergen please please make sure you visit the home of Edvard Grieg, Troldhaugen. His house is not actually the house in the photo on the left, but these two went together in a cute way. The place itself is amazing. Really. Some proof below:
I came back to London well-rested and relaxed on Monday, and I'm missing the place so badly already. (Thank you so much F&S!) I'm finding it hard to find the right words to describe it really, but I do love Norway very much. :) Things are now getting back to "normal" and I'm having to pull my purple socks up and start getting my set together! Purple is proving to be the most difficult colour to photograph for me in the whole project. And there I was thinking that orange was going to be the hardest one! :P
We started off in one of my favourite places in London. I wanted to show my new boo all the places that make me and London click. There was the usual amount of entertainment going on as you can see. We had such a laugh watching this man's show, as did the other people.
What I love about the 5D is that our relationship is less confusing than this man has with his little cutie by the looks of it. ;)
I am still in love with the wide angle opportunities, but I did tone it down a bit today. There is such thing as too much of a good thing... But we get on like house on fire. It's such a shame he has to go home soon...
From Covent Garden we went across to China Town and to my favourite shop in London.
This couple made us smile. Their friend was late meeting them by the gate by the looks it.
From China Town to Piccadilly Circus and a nice coffee around the corner.
There were so many people out enjoying the beautiful weather.
Sun seems to bring the best mood out of everyone.
I seem to be in smoker central at the moment...
This is dedicated to my dear friend René and his quit smoking campaign! :D
We strolled through Green Park, which is even more green than last month...
... and full of beautiful people reading.
We ended the day at Trafalgar Square, like so many people.
It really was a wonderful London day out today.
And we caught a lot of orange things, too.
Next thing I'll be doing is helping my friend Caroline move and after I've recovered from that I'm off to Finland for a few days to celebrate my birthday a bit prematurely with my family and friends. I hope you're well and that the summer is catching up with you too wherever you are. ;)
I went to Tate Britain first thing today so see the How We Are - Photographing Britain exhibition. We tried to see it couple weeks ago, since my friend Marianne has one of her photos in the special Flickr sponsored part of it, but we were too late to get in. Hence this photo being quite appropriate. And it was open today, and I saw it (and took a sneaky photo of it for Marianne). ;)
From the Tate I walked via Parliament Square to Trafalgar Square. I felt like doing some touristy shots and what is a better place than heart of London by Nelson. You can catch so many great people shots there. And Nelson really is my favourite guy in London. :D
It's not legal to feed the birds at Trafalgar Square anymore. I remember the first time I stood in this spot over 15 years ago you couldn't see the ground from the pidgeons. And some people still get a bit lost in London. I had to snap him for good old time's sake.
My favourite shot(s) from the day. There is something very sweet about this, in a very London way. I'm not quite happy with the Kodal Elite 400 film I put through the camera though today. A bit too saturated for my taste, but I'm still learning what I can do with the new camera (which is part of the fun!).
So, for the rest of the weekend - I have a little plan to go and take my Holga to the Notting Hill Carnival on Monday. I've never been, which is quite embarrasing, since I've lived in London almost nine years. I kinda feel it is about time I experienced one of its institutions. I have said this same thing the past couple years though, so no guarantees.
I cannot believe it is August already. Where is the summer slipping away to? It only feels it's just begun here in Britain. It was actually quite ironic having to go near the arctic circle to catch some proper summer weather in July. And my, isn't this British - talking about weather! :D I should really get to the point and ta-tara-raa announce the arrival of my scanner! It is finally here courtesy of selling some stuff on eBay and photographs as prints in the past couple months. I am so excited, and to be honest such a nerd. Installing and fiddling with new gadgets is one of my favourite past times. I can now scan prints straight from negatives, but I haven't tried to do that yet, I'll save that for the weekend. But of course I couldn't resist putting something through the new toy, so I scanned some of the prints from my other new toy: Olympus Pen EE half frame camera. This little Japanese beauty takes two vertical photos in one frame and is so much fun.
It was an amazing day on that Saturday on the South Bank.
I sure had a nice time... :)
The London Eye is the most popular tourist attraction in London at the moment. I think it has been so since they hoisted it up in 2000 (apparently 3,5 million people go round it in a year). It is also my favourite sign of British competency: originally planned to open on New Year's Eve 1999 to commemorate the new millennium it actually had it's first official run in March 2000 instead. Oh well...
What can I say about this one. Just things I saw and liked together.
McJob is now an official Oxford Dictionary word by the way. ;)
Two great things going around in the South Bank.
It's great fun to compose and match things together with this little camera. I really enjoyed thinking outside the box a bit when shooting the first film. It's always nice to try new things as well to refresh from the old routine.
This is my favourite photo from the day. That fountain is still up there by the Royal Festival Hall. I think it's proven a massive hit to be honest. There were so many people, old and young, running their way across it. I never come away frowning from this spot, the joy is so contageous.
Quite literally I suppose...
Most people were really enjoying the weather by strolling down the South Bank today.
It looks quiter in this photo than it really was.
There were ways of strolling down in style.
Although I think the second boy has outgrown his wheels, slightly.
This was the brightest colour co-ordinated family on South Bank today.
Really.
I suppose the good thing is that you won't loose each other easily. :-D
This really made me smile today.
Who needs or has the time for too much detail anyways?
:-D
Today was about funny looks and colour orange really.
I got my share of funny looks...
Person's eyes can say so much, can't they.
Even though it was a lovely day some people were still working.
And some were curious about what they were doing.
Some people on the other hand were somewhere else totally.
I'm guessing he's thinking about football...
There was a big game on today (I think).
It's really difficult to find some peace and quiet in London, especially at lunch time.
Yet somehow some people manage it with ease and with a view of the Thames.
Some find it by endulging in a great book.
And some just try to find that great book.
(Another Canon user, how could I resist snapping this?!)
Even tough men deserve breaks from a days hard work.
And what could be better than to do it with ice cream? ;-)
All the excitement and people got to some...
It was too much for the big...
... and the small.
Some preferred the grass near the London Eye.
I hope he didn't burn his stomach...
The warm weather and sun really does make people go a bit funny in London.
And to end, these are my three favourites from today:
Rankin photographs by the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank.
A really nice set up for us amateurs. ;-)
I love the fact that other performers take time to see
what the other entertainers are up to and support them.
Or that they just had some time out to chat and relax with friends. :-)
I wish all police in London would dress in these kind of uniforms!
And that ends our show and tell for this time around.
I'm missing summer terribly tonight.
I know the days are getting longer, and that spring is just around the corner, but somehow it's just not enough. I would also like to write and comment more here tonight, but I am so tired. Work has been an incredible meatgrinder the past couple weeks, so I'll have to come back with more brain power and energy towards the end of this week. Thank goodness for couple floating annual leave days I had to take before April --> I'm having a lovely long weekend this weekend! Expect lots of photos (and lots of shopping) to be done!
